Center for stray dogs

The silver lining in this dark cloud is the many rescues and shelters that are working tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of animals seeking adoption. We are using this space to highlight the most dedicated animal shelters and rescuers in the UAE.

Located in Umm Al Quwain, the stray dog center was founded by Amira William in 2013. Today Amira manages the shelter with the help of a paid staff of 9 caretakers, a foreman, an administrator and over 350 volunteers.

Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Center (RAKAWC)

Operating entirely on donations, the Stray Dog Center team has rehomed thousands of dogs and continues to work hard to improve the lives of stray animals in the country. The shelter currently has 480 dogs, 15 cats and 2 donkeys.

Animals and us

The main objective of the sanctuary is to improve the welfare of animals in the UAE. They do this by finding homes for all their surrendered animals and providing TNR (trap, neuter and release) as well as medical assistance to the stray animal population in the UAE. Although their efforts are mainly concentrated in Ras Al Khaimah, they continue to work hard for animal welfare in the emirate. Visit https://urbanpetss.wixsite.com/urban-pets for more information.

Michelle Francide, who founded Animals & You in 2006, has been rescuing for more than 15 years. When he started the sanctuary in Fujairah, his main goal was to end the suffering and fear that humans inflict on animals.

The shelter rescues abandoned and stray animals, provides veterinary assistance, helps find homes for unwanted animals through adoption, and helps educate the public about responsible animal ownership. They operate entirely on public donations and manage the shelter with the support of a team of volunteers armed with their love for animals.
